There are some ways to prevent keyword abuse. The number one thing to remember when you are writing new content is, you should include primary keywords by placing them in areas and content that makes understandable sentences. You want to avoid inserting keywords just anywhere.
Blog writers sometimes think that having “keyword rich” content, or a high keyword density is going to get them ranked on the first couple pages of Google. Truth is search visibility isn’t about repeating keywords. If your keywords aren’t naturally appearing where you’d like them to, then you need to rethink your content strategy and, and move on to more technical on page SEO.
Increasing the traffic to your blog or website and building trust or credibility can’t be done overnight. And when you’re strapped for time, you want the easiest method to get the job done fast. The method you want avoid is throwing keywords aimlessly at your article content.
5 Keyword Abuse Tips

- Over Stuffing Keywords – Limit yourself to 2 keywords or keyword phrases for every 100 words.
- Bolded Keywords – Save bolded keywords for headers or when it’s stylistically correct to emphasize.
- Excessive Keywords – Ensure your keywords provide informative value and are relevant to your article topic.
- Misspelled/Grammatically Incorrect Keywords – Write content naturally and proofread your articles thoroughly.
- Variations of Keywords – Focus on writing for your readers and avoid adding dashes, commas, or spaces to keyword phrases.
Always provide quality, informative content that targets your readers and not search engines. Without the proper keyword usage and moderation of keywords, throwing keywords at articles will corrupt your credibility and readers will be less inclined to click through to your website.

Hey, you’re right on the money here! I hate trying to read over-optimized blog posts. It is confusing and hard to read! Why would anyone write for the search engines anyways? They are not the one’s that will be shelling out the cash when you mke money on your website! Write for the reader, that’s what I always say, and let the keywords fall where they may!

Lot of websites got hit by the Panda updates. When it comes to keywords, I think it’s best to use what is required and not go overboard with it.

I generally put one keyword in the first paragraph and then use a H1 tag as well as a title tag. I don’t mess with boldfacing or italicizing although as discussed in the 30DC it’s useful. Good blog post.

Keywords stuffing is the most annoying thing! In reality we don’t speak like that so why we write in such a ridiculousness way. I think our content should not suffer because of some SEO manipulations. We need to put the content as our first prerogative!
Panda is just looking for good relevant information and looking to give penalties to those that are trying to cut corners and cheat their way up the SERPs. I like your “Keyword Abuse Tips” they are the main ones, but I’m going to have to disagree a little with the bolded words part. I think that if you bold too much or unnaturally that is when you run into problems, but I think it is acceptable on occasion because that can help with readability for your reader. Jim, thanks for your comments. I agree with you that over bolding words and keywords can be a problem. But, proper on page seo does require that your keyword be bolded at least once in your article. Check out my video On Page SEO.
I think that you are spot on here, especially given Google’s recent Panda updates that focuses on quality content. I also remember reading something from google that stated that they can mark down these keyword stuffed articles. More than ever I think that you need to write for humans, not search engines, and bring into play more LSI keywords, not only will your article read better, the search engines should rate it higher.
