Niche Marketing is a sub category of mass marketing. Typically, mass marketing is very general and not so targeted. While niche marketing focuses on a certain targeted group of individuals.
A niche can be defined by age, interests, hobbies, business, location, needs, preferences, wants or gender.
It can be anything from fly-fishing to rock climbing to jet ski racing. Some niches are defined more broadly than others. Home based business owners and Network Marketing are two examples of this.
What does Niche Marketing mean to you the Home Based Business Owner?
If you are just getting into online marketing or you have been around for a while, the only way to compete with the gurus is “niche marketing“. There are new niches and existing niches for you to tap into even if you are totally a newbie to online marketing. Your goal is to find a niche market where you can use your own experience and expertise, and then offer the best services and products to meet the needs of your targeted market.
When you become an affiliate for these products and services, you can certainly make a very worthwhile income by positioning yourself as the “go to” person for your specific niche. And even if it’s a niche that does have some competition, it’s not too difficult to do things better and smarter than your immediate competition with all the right tools and resources.
Niche Marketing and Your Home Based Business
Before you can effectively start marketing your home based business you need to know who your target audience is. Here are some questions you should be asking yourself:
1. Who is this person you are targeting?
2. What is different about the services or products that I offer?
3. How do I set myself apart from the competition?
4. Do I understand what drives my target audience to make decisions?
The best way to answer these questions without analyzing them too much, is just write down whatever first comes to mind. Once you’ve completed them, analyze the answer and it will be easy to define your niche market. Defining your target market is the hard part. Once you know who you are targeting, it is much easier to figure out which media you can use to reach them and what marketing messages will resonate with them.
